Kaplan and Kaiser’s “Developing Versatile Leadership” recognized by MIT and Pricewaterhouse Coopers as runner-up for article of the year.
A panel of five CEOs and Chairmen voted Bob Kaplan and Rob Kaiser’s paper, “Developing Versatile Leadership,” as the runner-up for article of the year in Sloan Management Review for 2003. This is the second year the award was sponsored by MIT and PricewaterhouseCooper.
The paper describes an innovative model of leadership that is at once simple and compact yet also highlights the tensions and trade-offs that make leadership a balancing act. Also featured is the Leadership Versatility Index(c) - the next-generation 360 instrument built upon this model - and a practical psychology for helping managers overcome their biases and prejudices to become versatile leadership.
The standards used by the panel of judges included:
Said one judge, “The authors did a terrific job discussing the complex dimensions of leadership in a way that is both rigorous and practical. The metrics they present are very compelling and quite original. The conclusions they draw are extremely insightful and carry enormous implications for leadership.”
Bob Kaplan and Rob Kaiser will attend a ceremony on the MIT campus later this year to receive their award.
