Kaiser, R. (2006). Review of The Three Financial Styles of Very Successful Leaders by E. Ted Prince. Personnel Psychology, 59, 233-237.
This book is first and foremost intended for managers as a self-directed guide to understanding how the way they lead affects the financial performance of their organization. It is certainly timely, amid the spate of headlines about corrupt CEOs who have bankrupted corporations. On that score, the book delivers by offering managers a novel perspective on how their orientation to money affects organizational performance, plenty of exercises and self-diagnosis tools, and a wealth of stories straight from the contemporary business press to bring it all to life. As far as business books go, “The Three Financial Styles…” is solid. And original: I know of no other book that so explicitly links leaders to the bottom-line (literally).
But this review is from a different perspective: the view of an Industrial-Organizational Psychologist interested in leadership.
