Kaiser, R.B. (2006, April). Leadership and Practical Science: Advancing Knowledge, Improving Organizations. Academic-Practitioner Collaborative Forum presented at the 21st Annual Conference of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology, Dallas, TX.

Leadership—there may be no other topic in I/O psychology that is of equally great interest to scholars and practitioners. This session emphasizes I/O psychology as an applied science with two examples of collaboration between researchers and practitioners to further understanding and facilitate organizational development at the same time. Two teams, each composed of researchers and practitioners, will discuss their collaborative projects. Each began as an urgent applied problem; one in a public company, the other the U.S. Army. Topics include balancing methodological rigor and practical constraints, substantive findings, and creative ways to apply research in solving organizational problems.
