DeVries, D.L., Konz, A. M., & Kaplan, R.E. (2001, April). Executive Coaching: How and When to Use It. Workshop conducted at the 16th Annual Conference of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology, San Diego, CA.
Executive coaching is an intensive investment in the growth of an individual leader. Its use in the private sector continues to grow. For what leaders does it appear to be appropriate? What are the central elements of effective coaching? What adult-development principles are employed? What core skill- and experience-sets characterize effective coaching? What are the potential downsides and risks of executive coaching? What impact can coaching have and how do we know that? This workshop will be an interactive experience designed for SIOP members seeking to be an executive coach or for those who need insight when retaining an executive coach for the firm they might represent.
