Kaplan, R.E. (2002, May). Leadership versatility: What leaders need to deal with complex challenges--and don’t always have. Paper presented in Charles Palus (Chair), Complex Challenges Roundtable at the Leadership Development Conference organized by the Conference Board, New York, NY.
Presents a model of the kind of versatile leadership needed to flourish the in the complex model world of business. Versatility is seen as the capability to employ a given managerial skill to more or less degrees. A higher order conception of versatility is presented that considers the ability to deftly turn from using opposing skill sets, depending on the needs of the situation.
