Discusses how to use the Big Five taxonomy of personality characteristics to guide the process of evaluating candidates for executive-level appointments. First, the central importance of personality in leadership is illustrated. Next, a theoretical framework for linking personality characteristics to unique position requirements is presented. Implications for using this model in the design of selection batteries and especially structured interview questions and evaluation criteria are emphasized.
